Should rabbits be caged up or free roam?

i want to know cause i have this huge cage but my rabbits hate being in there always trying to get out so most of the time they free roam in my house ( i make sure its rabbit proof even thought occasionly i lose a book or shoe )and even thought its messer with the bowls of water and hay all over my room they seem happier just going everywhere following us and begging for treats lol so should they be caged up i heard some people say they should stay most of there time in the cage because there so messy i would never do that to them

Should rabbits be caged up or free roam?
Depends on the rabbit.. Some are pretty smart about not getting into things, others are almost impossible to rabbit proof for. Mine will actually climb the book case and I'll find her at the very top as she jumps from one shelf to another. For her own safety, she spends most of the time in her cage. I let her out though whenever I'm around to watch her. Fortunately she's not a very high energy rabbit and will mostly just hop around till she finds a good spot to lie down. If you can keep your rabbits out safely, then, why not. I would leave mine out if I wasn't afraid of her getting up high and falling off..
Reply:They can be both, or either~ My friend litter trained her rabbit so it was like a cat, roaming free around her house. Or you can let it roam during the day and put it in its cage at nighttime~ Either way, give it lots of time out of its cage
Reply:Bunnies should be able to roam around in their free time, but not all the time. Bunnies could get into trouble if not supervised. Just make sure to get the biggest cage you can find, so your bunny will feel comfortable and happy while in her cage.
Reply:Don't forget the biggest danger for them is that they like to chew on electrical cords.
Reply:in the afternoon u may let it free at home but of course not outside.
Reply:They should be free to roam. Firstly because well, how well would you do locked up in a cage all day?

Leave the door to the cage/hutch open. Rabbits are burrough animals, they'll want to have a private place to sleep..

As long as you have no other pets, a rabbit will be fine running all around the house..just make sure theres no wires to chew on.

Rabbits aren't that messy, really, and can be litter box trained.

Also, if you want to take your rabbit outside, you can purchase a rabbit harness, and walk it on a leash just like a dog.
