Yorkie eats like a pig?

My 14 wk old yorkie (chloe) has major behavior issues. She chews on any and everything, from my fingers to my clothes and shoes. Im constently catching her with things in her mouth...lint balls paper etc. It seems as if shes always hungary, I feed her twice a day in a small silver bowl. I fill the bowl about a quarters way and was instructed by the breeder to not over feed her. I never give her table food but she barks at me when she see's me eating. i occasionally will give her a few frosted flakes as a treat but not on a daily basis. what should i do about my little porkie yorkie.

At 14 weeks, I would still be feeding her threee times a day. She is also teething, and will be for many months yet. Give her plenty of chew safe toys, Small Kong filled with moistened kibble, then freeze the whole thing, and give to her. You need to keep things picked up and out of her reach to keep her from chewing dangerous things. It is a lot of work to raise a pup, but it will come with time. Keep up the good work.
Reply:Sounds like someone needs puppy classes.

Show her whos top dogs, as she sounds like she's trying to dominate you by being naughty and barking at you etc.
Reply:OK, you should have to say no sternly and you have to be the dominate. don't give in to your dog. your dog thinks that she is the leader of the house and she should get what she wants. when she barks, ignore her, don't pay any attention to her. if she continues to bark, say no sternly. this should help some. try putting her on a leash, and give her a muzzle. if she squirms to it, she is not comfortable with it, but it's OK. dogs tend to do that. don't give your dog any human food. you only make her spoiled and she will continue to do this behavior. give her the amount of food the breeder told you to give her.

Reply:She doesn't have behavior issues, she's just being a puppy. Feed her three or four times a day. What food do you give her? Feeding a low quality food makes them hungrier because it's full of fillers and not actual stuff they need. Feed what is recomended on the bag.

She keeps putting things in her mouth because she is a puppy, and that's what they do. It's their way of exploring the world. Pick things up and keep stuff out of reach. It should be easy, Yorkies are small dogs.

Cut back on the people food for now. She really shouldn't have it and she barks at you because you give it to her. Sugary stuff and dogs don't mix well - instead give her a little bit of plain white rice or plain boiled chicken as a treat in her bowl.

Get her a few toys to chew on. Kongs and Nylabone toys work great ad you can stuff the Kongs with kong stuffing or the wet, frozen kibble.

Exercise her a bit (short, controlled walks) each day to drain some of that energy, providing she's had her shots.

Good luck!
Reply:little yorkie might not be hungry but she might be gettin her teeth coming through still so she might be chewing on things to help so she might not be hingry all the time xx

but if her/his teeth have allready *** through take her/him to the vets becuase she might have worms and the vets will give her/him sum tabletsxx
Reply:It may appear that your puppy has "major behavior issues" but in fact Chloe is most likely teething, a process which begins between three and six months of age. The reason she may be chewing is to relieve the pain that is associated with teething.Speak to your veterinarian about this and he/she will be able help you make your puppy more comfy.

Feeding a 14 week old puppy twice a day is not sufficient. It is probably better to feed her three to four times a day. She is a little puppy and her tummy is smaller too, so frequent feedings are easier for her to digest.

Remember that puppies require more food proportionally than adult dogs as they are growing rapidly. Feed the best quality food that you can. Growing puppies should have the best nutrition to insure that their bones and muscles develop well.

In addition to discussing the best diet with your veterinarian who should be monitoring your puppy's weight to be sure that it is correct, you can read about puppy feeding at: http://dogtime.com/feeding-puppies.html

Since you have made the wise decision not to feed table scraps, it is important for you to be consistant with her. Feeding her occassionally as a treat with frosted flakes can confuse her. She is begging by barking for this treat. You need to learn to redirect this behavior in her training.

Good luck with your puppy. She sounds like she is quite a handful right now, but as she gets older and becomes more trained she will be your best friend.

Hope this helps,
